A new scooter or moped is always accelerated smoothly, without jerks. But over the years, wear of the engine and other components leads to the fact that the acceleration takes place with dips. It is always unpleasant and very uncomfortable in the process of movement. Repair the engine in this case there is no need, you can do it in more simple ways. For example, adjust the carburetor, thereby debugging the flow of the fuel mixture.
Why is this so important? If the mixture enters the engine in larger quantities (rich mixture), this leads to excessive fuel consumption, carbon deposits are formed in the combustion chambers, and the carburetor becomes wet. If the mixture comes in a small amount (poor), then the device loses its power, the engine overheats, which affects the quality of work of the entire vehicle. To bring the proportions of the mixture to the standard, you need to adjust the carburetor.
How to properly adjust the carburetor on a scooter and a moped
This can be done in two ways:
- Adjust the fuel supply with a special screw that is in the design of the carburetor.
- Use the throttle needle to adjust.
In the first case, it is necessary, using a screwdriver, turn the screw clockwise or counterclockwise. The hourly mixture is enriched; Typically, the standard screw position is 1.5-2.0 turns when opened. In this form, the carburetor comes from the manufacturer.
However, it should be noted that not all carburetors have such screws, for example, on mopeds and scooters of the Suzuki Sepia and Suzuki Assress brands they are not. Therefore, adjustment is made using a throttle needle.
- The choke is removed from the carburetor.
- The needle is pulled out of the flap.
- The retaining ring moves according to the set grooves.
- Adjustment by a needle is made - it falls (the mixture is depleted) or rises (the mixture is enriched).
Attention! Adjustment of the carburetor is made only on a heated engine. The carburetor itself must be cleaned from the inside before adjustment. It often happens that it is mud deposits that lead to incorrect operation of the device.
